Q&A | Cable Growth in Cinema 4D

Recently Paul Clements posted a breakdown of a headphones project he put together. It’s an awesome breakdown and hints at a few interesting techniques.
Since he posted it I’ve had a few questions about to go about replicating some of the effects in it, so this video answers a common one.
If you watch his video: vimeo.com/35145361 from about 10 seconds in you will see the effect we are going to look at.

The wires are made with Tracer (Rotated ball) and Sweep Nurbs. I don’t know how the wire sheath is done.

The work of Palu Clements are impressive.

Sorry. The Q&A video is not properly linked and I didn’t see it before my comment.

    Hello,

Can you tell me what collection of plug-ins are you using, cause I can see a lot in your interface? I’m little bit curious :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,
    Alex

You can only actually see two. Along the top of the viewport are the icons for Maxwell Render and to the right are the icons for DPit FX. All the rest are standard tools and a couple of scripts. I just have them in my layout like that to make working faster.
      Hope that helps.

        Thanks.

    Hey Rob,
Thanks for this tip. I made the five part sheath with an arc shape and the bend deformers, but I’m really wondering how Paul made the cable as an object follow the helical shape through space. As a reference, it’s at 11.5 seconds in the breakdown video. I’ve tried all sorts of combinations of effectors and align to spline tags, but I’m at a loss after 2 weeks of trying.

    Any suggestions?

nevermind. I discovered what spline wrap does. sometimes you just have to sit and read the manual a 99th time.
