Hi all, thought it was time for an update. This year has been quite the busy one for me, what with doing a bunch of client CG, editing 3D World magazine and taking on 3D Artist as well. I’ve travelled a load too, both presenting and attending everything from FMX and THU to Siggraph and I’m still not done. I have a week off next week, then straight on to Turin for View conference (what a show that should be. The line up is amazing; Brad Bird and Michael Giaccino!) That said, I am currently in the process…

Hi all, recently I’ve posted a few seemingly random images on instagram and twitter and I’ve had a bunch of emails from people asking if I’ve moved away from 3D. I thought I would give a brief rundown of my history so you understand more of what I’m about. So, I started out as a photographer, back in the 90s. I’d studied photography, art and film at college but spent much time in the dark room (yes, this was pre digital) and fell in love with the process, not just the shooting but the the post processing. Hi all, I’m really excited to announce the launch of Volume 1, from my series of hires textures for CG artists ( a selection of which you see above). Using the pack you can create some beautiful, photorealistic materials, from old vintage brickwork, to bamboo flooring and so…

Things are hotting up here already but for now I just wanted to share this tutorial I created for Digital Arts, all about using Radeon ProRender inside maya. It’s a great renderer, with a lovely material library and works a treat. Follow the link to read the tutorial and don’t forget ProRender is free, so grab it and give it a try. I had a lot of fun writing it and it was also a great reason to bring back MilgBot.
I’ve been hard at work on new ways to help you get better results easily and it’s nearly ready. Promats is a collection of material packs, each with a particular focus, to give you the best results possible. Each pack will have Diffuse, Displacement, Normal, Weight and more channels as texture files ready for use with any material editor and render engine. Better yet, the packs will contain ready made materials for Cinema 4D, Cycles4D and Maxwell, so if you use them, then you are set to go the moment your download completes. The materials are all high resolution, so…
