By | cinematography, film, free, gear, Product, Review | No Comments

Hi all, if you are thinking about getting BlackMagic Design’s pocket cinema camera 4k, or you already have one, then this video might help. I share my thoughts on the top 5 accessories that will help you be a more efficient shooter who is able to get better footage. Although some of this is subjective and there are many other options out there I think the items I list work well and strike a good balance between quality and cost. The BMPCC4k is a great camera, with wonderful IQ but really benefits from a few simple add ons. For general…

What’s with the photos?

By | C4D, cinematography, film, gear, news | No Comments

Hi all, recently I’ve posted a few seemingly random images on instagram and twitter and I’ve had a bunch of emails from people asking if I’ve moved away from 3D. I thought I would give a brief rundown of my history so you understand more of what I’m about. So, I started out as a photographer, back in the 90s. I’d studied photography, art and film at college but spent much time in the dark room (yes, this was pre digital) and fell in love with the process, not just the shooting but the the post processing. ┬áSo much so…

By | C4D, free, gear, Product, render, Training | No Comments

Hello all and happy new year. Hope you are all rested and recovering from the festivities. Things are hotting up here already but for now I just wanted to share this tutorial I created for Digital Arts, all about using Radeon ProRender inside maya. It’s a great renderer, with a lovely material library and works a treat. Follow the link to read the tutorial and don’t forget ProRender is free, so grab it and give it a try. I had a lot of fun writing it and it was also a great reason to bring back MilgBot.

This year has been a busy one, with speaking at events from FMX to hosting a show at THU, filming a load of content for various projects all on top of the usual client work. However, the most exciting project of the year has been preproduction on a film that I’m directing. Work has been ongoing for months and months now and we will soon be starting to share a whole bunch of things, from concept art, character his and production diary style posts. We are about ready to shoot the prologue which we will be using in our indiegogo…

By | C4D, gear, news, render | No Comments

This is a bit of a catch all post and there’s a fair bit to cover, so I’ll be brief. Thi summer has been so busy but for the right reasons. The 3D work has been thick and fats with some really interesting projects, including a set of renders for Techradar, which are all concepts for new handsets from the likes of Apple, Samsung, LG and Sony. These were all made using Cinem a4D and rendered with Maxwell Render. There are more of these on the way so keep checking, as we will share them too. The best way to…

Laubwerk Plant kit update

By | C4D, event, gear, masters of cg, news, render, Uncategorized | No Comments
I've recently had the chance to test the latest from Laubwerk, developer of the fantastic Plants kit, which comes in various flavours, of which I'm using the Cinema 4D version. I was actually the first artist to use the new release and put it through it's paces and you can see my brief thoughts over at the Laubwerk site, along with one of the renders I created using it but I have to say I love it. I used previous versions and enjoyed them too but this one makes my life so much easier and my work more efficient. It...

By | cinematography, gear, Product, Review | No Comments

While doing a spate of video production gear reviews I got my hands on a Magic Carpet from Syrp and I love it. I wont repeat myself by typing it all out here but you can head over to RGBHQ to watch the video and see a few photos. If you just want to see a few shots made with it check it out below. I shot this using the Canon C100 mk 2, with a 24-105 L f4. Graded in Premiere using Magic Bullet Colorista and Film.

Pixellab Pipes Generator

By | C4D, gear, news, Product, Review | No Comments

My buddy Joren Kandel, from the Pixel Lab, recently revealed his latest product, the Pipes Generator. This is one of those plugins that you probably never knew you needed but is both fun and useful. If you do any kind of archviz work, or use 3D environments at all then this could be really handy. If you want to see it in action I’ll be adding a video to this post, so you can see how it works and what can be done with it. Pop back for that or sign up to the newsletter for news on new reviews…
